Walk along Velddrif’s famous Bokkomlaan where friendly fishermen will introduce you to the iconic West Coast delicacy of Bokkoms – salted Mullet hung in bunches to dry. Here you will also find Marina Clunie’s River Studio where the impressionist captures the moods of the Berg River. Explore the quant and curious stores along Bokkomlaan for the perfect vacation memento.
Visit the South African Fisheries Museum near the harbour for a fascinating look at the past and present of the South African fishing industry, from whaling to lobster catching.
On the Water
Situated on the Port Owen Marina an array of watersports is available to guests at Russells on the Port – canoeing, sailing, fishing charters and river cruises.
Pack a picnic and cast anchor with Tollies River and Boat Cruises for a sunset cruise along the Berg River. Bring your binoculars to make the most of this spectacular bird watching opportunity. River cruises are 1.5 hours and depart at 11am and 5pm. Guests may secure a booking through our staff.

Rocherpan Nature Reserve is a seasonal vlei teeming with birdlife and wildflowers which offers hiking trails, mountain biking and shore angling.
The blue waters of the Langebaan Lagoon and the seasonal wildflowers of the West Coast National Park are a West Coast must-see. Make a day of it by enjoying a picnic or braai at the park’s specially built facilities.
Experience a wide variety of African wildlife with a game drive at Thali Thali including kudu, giraffe, zebra, bontebok, ostrich and even camels.
Fun for the Family
As you cross the bridge into Velddrif, it’s hard to miss the saltpans spread out along the Berg River Estuary. Learn more about how salt is harvested from the sea with a guided tour of the Cerebos Salt Works or the Khoisan Salt Factory.
Visit the West Coast Fossil Park to see the fossils of exotic animals such as sabretooth tigers and short-necked giraffes which inhabited the West Coast some 5 million years ago.
Drive out to Simplybee in Hopefield where you can watch honey bees hard at work thanks to the glass hive at their observation centre.
Take it Easy
